Where these came from. Ananse the spider belongs to the Akan of
Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, and the stories travelled with people who did not
choose to travel — which is why the same spider turns up in Jamaica as
Anansi and in the American South as Aunt Nancy. The tales themselves are
oral tradition and belong to nobody. Every word on this page was written
