Privacy Policy
What Ananse News collects, why, how long it is kept, and how to have it deleted. Written to be read, not to be survived.

Who we are
Ananse News is a news channel operated by Aegis Asset LLC. Questions, corrections and deletion requests go to [email protected]. We answer within seven days.
What we collect from readers
Almost nothing, and nothing that identifies you.
- Nothing at all if you only read the site. We set no advertising cookies and run no third-party tracking or analytics.
- A count of link clicks. When a link we published is followed, we record that it was followed, when, and which platform sent the visit. It is a tally, not a profile: no name, no account, no device fingerprint, nothing traceable to a person.
- Your email address, only if you subscribe or apply for something. It is used to send you what you asked for. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it for marketing.
Social platform connections
Ananse News publishes its own journalism to its own social accounts. To do that, the account holder signs in to those platforms and grants permission to post on that account's behalf.
TikTok
We use TikTok's Content Posting API to publish video that Ananse News has produced, to Ananse News's own TikTok account.
- What we ask for.
user.info.basic, to confirm which account is connected and show it in our control room;video.uploadandvideo.publish, so a finished programme can be sent to that account. - What we store. An access token and refresh token for the connected account, held encrypted so the connection survives a restart, and the account's own identifier. That is all.
- What we do not do. We do not read your videos, drafts, followers, messages, analytics or feed. We collect no data about anyone who watches, follows or comments. We do not use TikTok data for advertising profiles, to train any model, or for any purpose other than posting our own journalism to our own account.
- Who we share it with. Nobody. Tokens are never passed to a third party, sold, or used by any other service.
- How long we keep it. Until the connection is removed. Disconnect in our control room, or revoke access in TikTok's own settings, and the token is deleted and stops working at once.
Other platforms
The same applies to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Threads: a token for our own account, used only to publish our own work, deleted when the connection is removed.
What we never do
- Sell or rent personal data, to anyone, at any price.
- Run behavioural advertising or share data with ad networks.
- Collect data about the audience of any connected social account.
- Use anyone's personal data to train a machine learning model.
- Track you across other websites.
Where it is held
On Cloudflare's infrastructure, which processes and stores data across its global network, and on one server we operate. Both are protected in transit by TLS. Tokens are held encrypted at rest.
Your rights
Whoever you are and wherever you live, you may ask what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Email [email protected] and we will do it within thirty days, usually within seven. You need not give a reason and we will not ask for one.
If you are in the UK or the EU you may also object to processing, request a portable copy, and complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Ananse News is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Tell us if you believe we have and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date above changes and the change is described here. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.
