What Ananse News is

A news and storytelling channel covering Africa and the wider world, published on this website and on our own social accounts. Reading it is free and requires no account.

Using the site

You may read, quote and link to our work. When quoting, credit Ananse News and link to the original. You may not republish whole articles or programmes without permission, misrepresent our reporting, scrape the site in a way that degrades it for others, or use it to break the law.

Our journalism

We report as accurately as we can and correct what we get wrong. Our sourcing, verification and correction rules are published in full in our Editorial Policy. If you believe we have published something inaccurate, write to us and we will investigate and correct it if we agree.

Third-party material

Headlines and extracts from other publishers are shown with attribution and a link to the original, under fair dealing and fair use for news reporting. Rights in that material remain with its publisher. A publisher who wants their material removed should write to us and we will remove it.

Our own material

Programmes, scripts, films and graphics produced by Ananse News belong to Aegis Asset LLC. Where a picture, recording or piece of footage belongs to someone else, it is credited.

Accounts and connected platforms

Our control room is for the newsroom's own staff and is not open to the public. Where it connects to a social platform, it does so only to publish Ananse News's own work to Ananse News's own accounts, and the connection can be withdrawn at any time by the account holder. See the Privacy Policy for what is stored and for how long.

No warranty

The site is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for any loss arising from relying on it. Nothing here is legal, financial or medical advice.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules.
